Responsible Hospitality.

Our responsibility

Responsible Hospitality. Built Into How We Operate.

Sustainability isn't a separate part of running a hotel well. It is part of how we look after our properties, our people, our guests and the places in which we operate.

Across Marsden Group, we focus on practical initiatives, strong operating standards and continuous improvement, creating better-run properties today while considering their impact for the future.

Our Properties

MEASURING UP

Independently Benchmarked

Across our Qualmark-rated properties, we achieve an average 4.5-star accommodation rating, alongside Silver and Gold Sustainable Tourism Business Awards. Qualmark provides an independent benchmark for quality and responsible tourism, with sustainability criteria recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. For us, these assessments are about more than accreditation. They help us identify opportunities, strengthen our practices and continually raise standards across the Group.

Small Changes. Meaningful Impact.

Our teams look for practical ways to reduce water and energy consumption including the use of solar power; minimise waste, and make more considered purchasing decisions. That extends to our supply chain. We work with suppliers such as Vendella, including its DreamGreen range using recycled materials, Astro Hospitality, with its focus on more responsible hospitality products, and Bidfood New Zealand, supporting access to local growers, producers and more sustainable sourcing options. For many of our remote resorts and lodges, environmental stewardship goes further. Working closely with the Department of Conservation and local environmental and conservation groups is part of operating responsibly in some of New Zealand's most special natural environments.

Strong Hotels Start With Strong Teams

We support our teams through structured induction, ongoing training and development, strong health and safety systems, wellbeing initiatives and opportunities to provide feedback. Investing in our people creates stronger teams, better guest experiences and better-run properties. Leveraging our membership with Hospitality New Zealand, we provide access to the Typsy training tool, covering wellbeing, stress management, skills for the job and much more.

Local Matters

Our properties are part of communities across New Zealand. We encourage our teams to build strong local connections, support local businesses and suppliers, and help guests experience more of their destination. We support the principles of the Tiaki Promise, encouraging visitors to care for New Zealand's people, culture and environment while they travel. At our resorts and lodges, this connection to place can include conservation, biodiversity initiatives and working alongside local organisations to help protect the environments our guests have come to experience.

Hospitality For Everyone

Good hospitality means making people feel welcome. We continue to improve the accessibility and inclusivity of our guest experiences, supported by initiatives and resources including Accessible Accommodation and Travel Proud. It is part of our commitment to understanding different guest needs and making travel more welcoming for everyone.

Always Looking For Better

A city hotel doesn't operate in the same way as a remote lodge. Nor should it. We set clear Group expectations around responsible operations, people, safety, guest experience and property standards, while allowing each property to respond to its location, facilities and community. Guest feedback, operational reporting, property inspections, staff feedback and independent assessment help us understand what is working and where we can do better. Added to all of this is the fact that our Wyndham Hotels & Resorts properties are proud members of the global Wyndham Green programme.

Protecting the asset. Supporting our people. Respecting our places. Welcoming everyone.
